Natural sources of thermal energy
Some major sources of thermal energy include:
- Decomposition
- Fuel (Chemical Energy)
- Our Sun (Solar Energy)
- Geothermal heat
How can we use the sun for Solar Energy??
Two types
Heated directly by the sun’s rays, designed to heat without the use of fans or pumps which would help to carry heat to different areas of the building. Passive design tries to:
Heated by the sun’s rays however it needs the aid of some mechanical device to help transfer the energy produced
“Thermo” meaning heat and “Stat” meaning to maintain or keep the same.
Provides heat for only one room
Provides heat from a single source, the transferring of heat travels through a network of pipes, ducts, and vents
What is the Difference between Forced Air Heating and Hot-Water Heating?

Two types of natural resources in the environment:
Forms of energy that can be replaced
Forms of energy that cannot be replaced (once they are used up, they are gone)
Each energy source has its advantages and disadvantages.
When making choices about which type of system to utilize, take into account where, when and how the energy will be used.
Cars and Trucks are big energy wasters and contribute greatly to the problems we have in the environment, including nitrogen oxides which cause breathing problems and contribute to pollution.
Take action to reduce use of cars – ride a bike, take public transit, use hybrid, or fuel cell vehicles, car pool, reduce speed to conserve on fuel consumption
Biggest energy user, industry’s use of energy can harm the environment, thus it is responsible to find ways to reduce the negative impacts. An energy audit is to determine ways to reduce energy usage.
